End of Day - Saturday, November 9 - 2nd & 3rd Series

Dog # 3 Max is our last running dog on our first day of the running of the 2019 National Retriever Club Championship at 4:56 pm.

Starting the day with Series One - Land Double with a Flyer at 7:13 am, 98 dogs completed the series and all of them got called back to the 2nd & 3rd Series - Land / Water Blind which started at 2:46 pm. We began with dog #81.

We will continue with this 2nd and 3rd Series Land / Water Blind tomorrow with only one test dog being called to the line at 6:45 am and the first running dog # 4 Tucker at 7:00 am.

3. FC AFC SUNDOG'S MAXIMUM PURSUIT, "Max" LM, John Henninger

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 & 2018 (F); Amateur - 2016, 2018 & 2019

Land Blind (4:51 pm) - Good initial line taking three whistles to get left of the hay bale and two more to the end of the blind.

Water Blind (4:54 pm) - One whistle carried Max into the water with one more to get through the cattails that carried to the edge. Two more whistles to carry him over the mound and to his bird.

2. FC AFC WHICH ONE'S PINK, "Floyd" LM, Bart Peterson

Previously entered National(s): Amateur - 2017

Land Blind - Five whistles before hung up at the guns and one to get out of the trouble and on to the bird.

Water Blind - First whistle just cross the road. Two to get in the pond and one to hit the cattails. Two to get position to the land and landed wide left missing cover but two got him to the bird.

1. BLUEWATERS TEASIN EM UP, "Strike" LM, Kenny Trott

This is Strike's first National showing.

Land Blind - Multiple whistles to get down and past the hazards and kept pulling right. Several more before a very loose end.

Water Blind - Lined into the pond with four whistles to get through the cattails. One to skim through the end of the cover and one in the second piece of water through the cover and out to the bird. One final to check down at the end.

101. FC AFC SEASIDE'S GORGEOUS GEORGE, "Clooney" LM, Ryan Brasseaux

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2017 & 2018; Amateur 2019 (F)

Land Blind (4:35 pm) - Four whistles to get Clooney to the corner of the ponds edge but still right of the hay bale. Two more to adjust his line to the bird.

Water Blind - Five whistles to get into the water and three more into the cattails. Driving on out of the water, up the hill and catching a piece of the mound of heavy cover.

100. FC AFC BAYOU-STAR ROYAL BABY, "Brit" LF, John Caire

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2018; Amateur - 2019

Land Blind (4:30 pm) - First whistle came before leaving the road. Brit took another five whistles and end right of the trees at the corner of the pond. Four more and Brit had to continued on the road past the blind.

Water Blind (4:32 pm) - One whistle to get into the pond, with two more to get to the cattails. Getting four more whistles to get out of the water and onto the blind passing the mound of cover to the right.

99. FC AFC BRUSHY CREEK'S JUICY JUICE, "Pulp" LM, Danny Farmer

Previously entered National(s): Amateur - 2017

Land Blind - Taking three whistles to get Pulp down and past the bale and guns, with one more to get to the fall area and a final one to the bird.

Water Blind - Initial line took Pulp down through the beginning part of the water and through the cattails. Getting two whistles to get him through the last section of the water and on to skim past the heavy cover. Two more blows with a check down to the bird.

98. FC AFC JET BLACK'S SUPERSONIC BOOM, "Sonic" LM, Ray Voigt

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2016; Amateur - 2016 & 2017

Land Bird - (4:19 pm) - One to get through the corner with the gunners, one to get to the blind with a final check down.

Water Blind - One to cross the road and one more to angle into the pond. Taking a whistle to get through the cattails and one more for a line through the last piece of water. Getting his final blow that carried to the bird.

Land Blind (4:12 pm) - Five whistles to the hay bale. Going right of the bale Ruger took four more to the end of the blind.

Water Blind (4:15 pm) - Three whistles to get into the pond that carried him to the cattails. Three more whistles to adjust and to get out of the water where he then got two more to get over the mound with the final two to the end.

96. FC AFC YOURS TRULY INDIGO, "Tru" LF, Chris Ledford

Previously entered National(s): Amateur - 2018 & 2019

Land Blind (4:08 pm) - Two whistles before the road with two more coming right of the hay bale with one to get Tru to the end of the blind.

Water Blind (4:10 pm) - Lots of momentum with an Excellent initial line that carried Tru through the cattails. Getting her first whistle to get out of the water and one more to go over the mound of heavy cover and on to her bird.

Came to the line at 4:02 pm.

Land Blind - Initial line went half way down the hill. One cast to get to the area just short of the blind. A check down at the bird.

Water Blind - Initial line almost all the way down the hill. Hannah took one whistle to get into the pond with the second to cross the cattails that carried through the pond and exit. One to pass just left of the cover and the final two coming to get the bird.

94. FC NORTH DAKOTA'S PRAIRIE MAGIC, "Maggie" LF, Charlie Moody

This is Maggie's first National showing.

Came to the line at 3:56 pm.

Land Blind - Maggie took five whistles to get down past the pond and guns with only one more coming get to the bird.

Water Blind - Two whistle to get into the pond and over to the cattails. One to get through the tails and on the edge of the point. One to the far shore with two more whistles coming to deflect off the cover. The final blow came to the bird.

82. FC ROCK RIVER BENJAMIN, "Ben" LM, Greg Bartlett

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2013, 2014 & 2017

Land Blind - Very good initial line. Ben got his first whistle to get around the edge of the pond with the second and last blow of the whistle to check down.

Water Blind - Good momentum with one whistle to get into the water. Taking four more in the cattails, followed by multiple whistles to get out of them and to the shore. Three more whistles to get Ben out of the water skirting the cover patch.

92. FC TOP GUN OAKLEY'S INZAYNITY QAA, "Zayne" LM, Dave Rorem

This is Zayne's first showing in a National.

Came to the line at 3:47 pm.

Land Blind - Good initial line to where Zayne took his first three whistles to get around the edge of the pond. Then the final three came to get him to the end of the blind.

Water Blind - One whistle to get to the water, two more to get through the cattails, with the final three blows  to the end and kicking up dirt all the way!

91. NAFC FC KIRKWOOD'S ACE OF LONE STAR, "Lexie" LF, Casey Adams

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2018; Amateur - 2016, 2017 (F), 2018, 2019 Winner

Land Bird - Initial line took Lexie 3/4 down the hill. She took her first two whistles to get past the pond and the guns. One check down at the end.

Water Blind - Two whistles to get to the cattails with two more to get the angle and through the cattails. Getting two more whistles at the edge to carrier through the cover, she took her final whistles to check down at the end.

90. FC HIGH DESERT MORNING, "Glory" LF, Trey Lawrence

This is Glory's first showing in a National.

Land Blind - Glory's initial line went half way down the hill, getting her first whistle at the pond. She then took three more in a row to clear the guns and get to her bird.

Water Blind - Initial line again went half way down. Getting two whistles to get into the water and two to get to the cattails. She skimmed past them to the end where she got one whistle to get back into the water. One to go left of the heavy cover and one last whistle to get to the area of the bird with a tweet tweet to the bird.

Land Blind - A quick early whistle before the road. Then three more to adjust around the edge of the water and two more to get to the end of the blind.

Water Blind - Good initial line taking her first two whistles to adjust entry into the water. Two more to skim through the cattails and out with three more blows to get to the end.

Came to the line at 3:23 pm.

Land Blind - Initial line carried to the road and Petey only took two whistles to get the end of the blind.

Water Blind - Initial line carried Petey to the water. One whistle to enter the water and three to adjust through the cattails. Taking multiple whistles to get out of the pond and to the end of the slind skirting the strip of heavy cover.

86. FC MIDWAY'S AVENTADOR, "Jenny" LF, Tim Milligan

Previously entered National(s): Amateur - 2019

Land Blind - Jenny's initial line went a third of the way down the hill. Getting her first two whistles to get her past the pond and gunners and one coming to the area with a tweet tweet to pick it up.

Water Blind - Initial line took Jenny just crossed the road and two to get to the pond and in to get through the cattails. This carried almost to the far shore. Two to get out and through to cover and one to the bird. 

85. FC AFC RAFT CREEK ROAD GRADER, "Willie" LM, Scott Harp

This is Willie's first National showing.

Land Blind - Initial line went half way down the hill to where he got his first two whistles to get past the road. Taking another whistle to pass the pond and the final to the bird.

Water Blind - Initial line carried Willie angled down the hill and into the pond. He took his first whistle to get through the cattail that he took to reenter the water and exit. The final two came to get him to the cover then to his bird.

84. FC AFC WHITEWATER SHAQ N BAMS BOUNCIN PITA MH, "Bounce" LF, Cindie Little

Previously entered National(s): Amateur 2018

Land Bird - One whistle to get the road with two more coming to get to the corner of teh pond and hay bale. This carried Bounce to the end of the blind.

Water Blind - One whistle at the edge of the water with three more to get to the cattails. It took multiple whistles to get her out of the pond and to the end of the blind.

83. FC MITIMAT'S RESPECT THE GIRL, "Reatha" LF, Paul Sletten

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2017 & 2018

Came to the line at 2:59 pm

Land Blind - One whistle to get to the road, with four more coming to get Reatha to the corner. The last two whistles go her to the bird.

Water Blind - One whistle to get to the road, with one more coming to enter the water. This carried her through the cattails. Getting two whistles to adjust her exit, she got another five to the end of the blind.

93. FC AFC BARTON CREEK'S TEXAS TRIPP, "Tripp" LM, Greg Bartlett

Ran out of order

Land Blind - 1st whistle came to keep his angle. The second and third to cross the pond with the fourth coming to slide past the guns and pond. The final was at the bird.

Water Blind - Tripp took two whistles to past the second road. One to get int the pond and two more to get through the cattails. Getting another two whistles to get across the far side of the pond, Tripp got one more to get out and one to cut the corner with the final whistle coming at the bird.

81. FC AFC MITIMAT ROCK PAPER SCISSORS, "Rocky" LM, Ray Voigt

Previously entered National(s): Open - 2014 & 2016; Amateur - 2013, 2016 & 2017

Land Blind - Rocky crossed the first road. He received a left verbal back, then a right verbal back to pass the ponds and gunners and to get his bird.

Water Blind - He crossed the gravel road and angled down the hill left to get the angle for entry. Two left verbal to get in the water and across the cattails. Right to catch the cattails and left to reenter the pond. Left verbal right but missed the cover, two more and got the bird.

Series Two & Three - Test Dogs

Cash came to the line at 2:20 pm.

Land - Cash took three whistles to get the end.

Water - Taking three whistles to the water and one to get to the cattails and one more to get out of the water. A final check down whistle.

Jaida came to the line at 2:25 pm.

Land - Jaida took a whistle before the road and one before cutting the corner that carried her to the bird.

Water - Getting two whistles before the road and one to get into the water and one to get out. She took a final blow to get to the blind.

2nd and 3rd Series – Land Blind and Water Blind

The Second and Third Series is a Land/Water Blind. For this test the mat faces southwest on the near side of a gravel road.

Before the test, there is a sluice into the cattails on the point jutting out into the pond. The gunners sit on the far shore between the two blinds shooting angle in.

The Land Blind takes the dog across the road and down through the brush, then across a second gravel road passing on the right side of the pond. Staying dry, they pass the guns on the right and go through the cover to a rooster at 160 yards.

The Water Blind takes the dogs across the gravel road, angle across the field into the pond. They enter into a cove and go through the point of the cattails, back into the pond and swim to the far shore. Then they will exit the pond and cross a trail where they will go through heavy patch of cover and on to the bird that is at 242 yards from the line.

It is a wrap for Series One at 1:54 pm.

This test smoothy starting at 7:13 am with dog #56 Scrapper with handler Ray Voigt starting the 2019 NRC Championship! We had 98 dogs completing this series in 6.5 hours. This averages the time of just under 8 minutes per dog to completed this test.

So is how the 1st Series - Land Double with a Flyer panned out...
